Part 10: The name

“Come on honey don’t be shy.” Vanilla says, encouraging on the stairs down to the living room, where Cream, Cheese and Amy awaits them with breakfast. (See extra image here: [link] ) Maria peeks her head out of Vanilla´s bedroom and follows the cream-coloured lady rabbit a bit slow, still seeming a little unsure on her legs.
“A little old-fashioned but we can get you some more suitable clothes later.” Vanilla says with her soft voice as she follows Maria downstairs.
Down in the living room Amy offers the yellow hedgehog a seat, and the rest joins her around the table.
“So how do you feel?” Amy asks the young girl and hands her a basket with fresh bread rolls.
“I am fine thanks” Maria says, still a little embarrassed of what happened earlier, takes a piece of bread and hands the basket to Cream. “I am very sorry about that, I don’t know what just happened…”
“No need to apologise, my dear,” Vanilla says in her usual calm and motherly tone. “So what do you want on your bread? Butter, jam or honey…” Vanilla silence for a moment. “Oh wait, sorry, my bad… You possible don’t know what any of it is.” the mother rabbit picks up a teaspoon from the table, and is about to open one of the bins.
“I think I will pick honey…” the yellow girl interrupts, the lady rabbit hesitates but hands the honey to Maria.
“Do you know what that is or did you just pick a random?” Amy asks her. Maria is mute for a moment as she is thinking before she answer the pink hedgehog’s question.
“I have a slight idea yes… it is sticky…. And sweet.” She opens the bin and inhales the scent before she stick her spreading knife in it and then hesitates.
“What the matter?” Vanilla asks worried.
“It is made by… some small animals, which I cant remember…” Maria says and adds some honey to the bread. Vanilla, Amy, Cream and Cheese looks at each other wondering but before they can answer her..
“Bees?” She asks them still a little insecure.
“That correct” Vanilla replies motherly
“Seems like that head of yours might not be that empty after all,” Amy states.
“Are there more things you know?” Cream asks optimistic
“Chao! Chao!” Cheese says as he jumps up and down.
“I don’t know…. “ Maria simply says and turns mute for a long moment

“Tea anyone? Mom makes the most delicious tea.” Cream offers, trying to ease this somewhat weird atmosphere. “Yes please...” Maria replies, as she hands her cup to Cream who pours some, when she gets the sugar basin Maria stops her, “No sugar please…”
Cream nods and hands her the cup. “Thanks..” she says and take a sip.
“Milk?” Vanilla asks, Maria thinks for a moment, like she is trying to remember what that is, and then nods. “Yes please.”
Vanilla hands her a small pot.
“Thanks…” Maria says as she receives it.
“I know what you are thinking… You want to know who this girl is you have been looking after the last couple of days…” Maria says with slight tone of sadness as she pours milk into her cup and sighs.
“I am afraid I am not capable of providing you with any useful answers…” She sighs again and puts the pot back on the table.
“My head is a mess, it feels like I have a big dark hole in the middle that is surrounded by strange images of people I don’t know… or I think I don’t know.”
“Try describe them.” Amy tries, Maria looks at her for a moment and turns her look to the teacup in her hand.
“There are particular two that keeps coming to my mind.” She closes her eyes like she tries to visualize them.
“There is an elder man with big moustache and glasses… He is very tall and…. not particular slim...”
“Doctor Eggman?” Cream asks, but Maria simply shakes her head.
“Nope not him… wait that makes three persons… Any who the person I am thinking of is a lot older, but he looks a lot like Ivo…” Maria silence as she starts to think.
“Speaking of witch, what is your relation to Eggman... I mean Ivo?” Amy asks.
“He is my father… I think…” Maria turns thoughtful.
“Then… who is your mother…” Cream asks wondering.
“Uhm…” Maria looks a little unsure at Amy.
“I do remember that I considered Amy to be some kind of mother figure to me…“
Amy couldn’t help by smile a little.
”But since you asks I believe it is not the case… Then I don’t think I have one…” Maria says with a little depressed tone.
“Then I guess you are an experiment of his after all…” Amy mumbles and takes the pot with tea, still feeling a little unsure if she did the right to take Maria in the first place.
“Who was the others from your memories? Besides the old man and Ivo?” Vanilla asks, trying to help the young girl remembering, Maria robs her face tensely and pauses.
“The other one is… A hedgehog… An ebony black and red male with crimson eyes…”
“Shadow?!” Amy, Cream and Vanilla exclaim at the same time. Maria is mute for a moment, but when she is about to says something “Ack!” Maria takes herself to the head like a great headache had stroke her.
“Are you okay?” Vanilla asks concerned and rushes to Maria's side, for a moment Maria doesn’t respond. “I am fine…” She removes the hand from her head and looks at the others. “ I am fine now,… I don’t know what happened, It felt like the name triggered something.” She says and chuckles a little awkward.
“Maybe we should stop this interrogation for now and gets some breakfast.” Vanilla says cheerful and offers Maria some toast. “I am sure some food will makes it easier for you, it will all come back to you soon enough.”
Maria nods to the lady rabbit’s words and takes a toast.
“Just one question more!” Amy interrupts. “Do you have a name? if you can remember it of course”
Maria thinks for a moment and then replies. “Its Maria… Maria Robotnik."
The others are mute for a moment and looks at each other, since they all are thinking the same, but continues with their breakfast, believing she impossible could be that Maria Robotnik.
