Misadventure with Ember and Gyro: Enter Metal Kinomi Part 1

“"Yeah schools out!"” Ember shouted happy as she and her brother Gyro, along with other kids, left the school.

"“It is finally weekend! Why is a week always so long?"” She smiles and gives her brother a gently push, but he didn’'t seem to enjoy it as much as Ember.

“"Yo Bro! What is the matters? You act more weird then you use to.”" She says concerned and looks in his eyes, but he avoids her and keep walking.

“"Don’t turn your back to me! I am your sister, I care about your well-being… It is my right to know what is wrong so I can undo it!"” The red Hedgehog girl says miffed as she grabs his jacket and picks him up.
The young ebony hedgehog boy and gives a little sigh, well knowing he couldn’t win this argument, and nods like he is pointing at something. Ember looks in the direction and sees a teenage female albino hedgehog, talking to a grey male bat with a fancy car.

"“Kinomi...,… I should have known."…” Ember says and drops her brother on the ground as she watches them.

“"Then what are you waiting for? Go and say hi! Invite her to our birthday party!”" She says and grabs his hand in order to get him back on his feet.

"“She has before visited us at our birthdays.”" Ember says encouraging as she dusts the dirt away from his jacket and corrects his blue scarf and glasses.

"“I don’'t know Ember, why would she bother coming to see me? In her eyes, I am still a little boy she used to babysit. No girl would think I am interesting."…” He sighs tired and looks at Kinomi and the bat boy.

“"That is not true!… I have heard your little friend, Hope, she thinks you are handsome.”" Ember smirks and gives her brother a pat on the shoulder.

"“It's only a rumor, Ember…. Besides, I can’'t compete with Batman and his batmobile over there,"” Gyro says and points at the grey mobian bat with dark blond hair. Ember tilts her head like she is thinking.

"“He might be handsome, but that way, too self-confident smug of his ruins it, and I can see in her eyes she is either impressed.”" Ember says after a moment of watching them.

“He is older, good looking, he has a nice car and money.… I don’t have any of it, so why bother even try."” The ebony hedgehog boy says hopeless.

“"I bet you could built a car that would make that one look like a can on wheels!"” Ember grins.

"“True... I have helped mom once in a while repair Herbert and KITT2…, but I can'’t effort the spare parts. Plus, I am not old enough."” Gyro says and turns around in order to leave.

“"Ah come on, Gyro!… Don'’t see this as a problem,… see this as a more of a challenge! Here let me give you a jumpstart.”" Ember gives him a blink and starts walking towards the albino hedgehog and the bat.

“"Oh please, god no!! Ember don'’t!!!"” Gyro begs his sister, but she ignores him and keeps walking. He panics and hides behind a nearby tree.

“"So, what do you think Kinomi? Would you join me at the ball?”" The very confident bat asks the doubtful albino girl, who crosses her arms.

"I will think about it…."” She says simple.

"“You invited her?..."” Ember asks sadly and disappointed as she approach them.
"“What about me?! What about our wonderful date?! Didn'’t that mean anything to you?!"” She shouts and dries her eyes like she is crying.

"“Angelo, is that true?!"” Kinomi asks suspiciously the speechless bat.

“…"No! NO I DON'’T KNOW HER!!! I DON'’T KNOW THAT KID!!!"” The bat tries when he sees the white hedgehog´s mug.

“…"YOU! YOU PLAYER!!!"” Ember yells angrily and kicks the bat´s car, so it flies through the air and ends on the roof of a nearby house.

"“MY CAR!!!!”" The bat yells.

"Opps…."” Ember says surprised as it wasn'’t her intention to kick that hard.
"Wraaaaaaa!!"” The red hedgehog girl cries as she runs away, before she gets into trouble.

"“Wow! I have never seen Ember so upset before... ," …”Kinomi says very concerned as she watches young girl running away.

“"My CAR! That brat trashed my CAR!!" The bat yells frustrated and yanks himself in the ears.
“"Just wait till I get my hands on her…”...!" He says furiously, but went silent when Kinomi turns her sight at him.
"“But! ...… But… I didn'’t!"
She gives him the cold stare and turns her back to him as she leaves…
When she is gone, Ember returns to her brother with a big grin.

"“Problem solved! Now she is yours to be taken,"” The red hedgehog girl says pleased.

“"You are hopeless, Ember…”..." Gyro sighs to his sister as they both start walking home.

"“And now the only thing that is missing is inviting her, I am sure she's yours before the end of the next week!"” Ember says confident to her brother, who just nods simply to her words.

"“What are you talking about?"” A familiar voice sounds behind them. They look back and see a young yellow and red mobian fox girl holding a magazine in her hands.

"“Oh, hi Hope…! Care to join us for a while?”" Ember asks the fox.

“"Sure thing!"” She says happily and walks up to them.

"“Gyro, have you heard, that there will be a Robot War clash for teenagers this year?!"” The hedgehogs classmate asks excited and shows them the magazine.

“"The article says in a month from now, they will be casting students for the show! If you and I team up, we can build the meanest machine ever! It would totally woop the noobs!”" The fox says thrilled as she hands it to Gyro. He looks at it for a while all silent and thoughtful.

“…"So Gyro, what do you think? With my metal cutting skills and your knowledge of artificial intelligence, I am 100% sure we are gonna win!"” She says after waiting for a reaction.
"“Gyro?”" She asks again uneasy as he doesn’'t respond.

“…"That’s it!... Hope! You are brilliant!”" Gyro says with sparkles in his eyes when he snaps out of it. He hands the magazine to the speechless fox and runs off.

"“Tell mom I will be back at supper!"” He yells over his shoulder.

"“What got into him?"” Ember asks puzzled.

“"I don'’t know...,… he is your brother,"…” The fox shrugs.

Few moment later at the Eggman fortress.

"“Let me get this straight...,… You want the plans for my Metal Sonic? Am I correct?"” The old doctor asks all serious as he is welds some metal.

"“That'’s right grandpa…. Can I have a copy?"” Gyro asks insecurely the bald man.

"“Well…, the machine is technically a highly advance weapon…. That could course great havoc and destruction!!!"” The old doctor says and stops welding.

"“So, you won'’t then..."…” Gyro says disappointed and is about to turn around in order to leave.

“"Sure, my dear boy! Of course I will hand it to you."” The doctor says excited and turns off the machine.
“"Follow me, this way."” He says proud as he rushes out of the room, closely followed by the young Gyro to the office.

When they arrive, the old man start searching through his files and finds a briefcase embedded in dust. He gives it a gentle blow and the title Metal Sonic appears.

"“Here you go, son,"” He says and hands it to the young ebony black hedgehog. Gyro receives it and opens it, besides lots of old mis-coloured papers there was a blue floppy disk.

“"Oh my bad! I forgot the data was on a medieval device."” The old doctor chuckles and takes it, and goes to his computer.

While he does that Gyro stares at the large bookcase, full of plans of different machines.
"“Are all these plans for robots?"” He mumbles to himself in wonder.

"“All of them!"” The bald man says proud and points at another bookcase.
"“And those are for vessels."” He says as the young hedgehog looks.
"“If you plan on building a hover-craft like mine, you just drop by!"…” Eggman says and blinks.

“"How many have you created?"” Gyro asks in wonder.

"“Oh, that is hard to say… hundreds maybe thousands… Some of my machines are mass-produced you see."” The doctor says and picks a CD from the computer.
"“Here you go, son.… The bios for Metal Sonic."” He says and hands it to his grandson.
"“Just let this stay between you and me, OK? Your parents mustn’'t know about this…. Especially not your mother!!!"” He says serious, well knowing Maria would never approve it.

“"Thanks doc, I won’t!”"

“"That’'s my boy! It's getting late now, you better get home before your mother starts to worry where you are."” The old man says as he fluffs the young hedgehog´s orange hair so gets all messed up.

Gyro nods but before he takes a step, the old man grabs his arm.

"“Just one more thing!”" He says serious hand holds up a finger. Gyro looks a little uneasy at him, worrying he was gonna get a lecture.

"“This is for you and your sister,"” The old man says with a grin and hands Gyro a large bag of candy.
“"Just don'’t tell your mom I gave you that OK?"” The old doctor chuckles and gives the young hedgehog a gentle pat on the shoulder before he leaves.

“"Aww..., they grow up so fast…. First he built a talking roomba, and now he is gonna built a weapon of mass destruction.… He is defiantly my grandson! I am so proud!"” Eggman thought to himself as he wiped away a tear and watches the young ebony and orange hedgehog from a nearby window.

Same time at Shadow and Maria´s home.

“"Mom I'm home!.... mom?”" In a dark hallway, a door opens and a red mobian hedgehog girl with blond hair appears. She steps inside and takes off her jacket and shoes.

"“MOM?!!!!"” She calls again, this time with the full strength of her lungs as she dumps her bag on the floor. In the distance, two orange lights emerges and a sound of wheels comes closer. She looks back and sees a machine which is basically a mechanic grabbing hook on wheel.

"“Oh!! Hi Murphy”." She chuckles to the machine which is holding a red ball in its grabbing hook.
It gives a gentle but metallic purr as a gesture and moves closer to the red mobian and drops it´s toy in front of her feet.

"“Oh, I am sorry, Murphy. I can'’t play now,"” She says as she gives the ball a gentle kick back to the robot, who disappointed just looks down at it.

Ember chuckles a little to herself as she shakes her head.
"“After supper, I will."” She says as she passes by her metallic friend which gives another but excited purr. When Ember leaves, the robot picks up her bag and drags it to the laundry room.
She enters the living room, and touches the large flat screen TV in the middle. It turns on and the face of a woman emerges.

“"What can I do for you, master Ember?"”

"“IVE, where is my mom?”" Ember asks.

"“She is in the lab, I will announce your return…”," The woman says with a pretty but monotone voice.

"“Sure…”..." Ember says tired and heads down the hallway till she reaches a door at the other side. She opens it and steps outside to the open.
Their home was once an abandoned farm which now had been rebuilt. The house had been touched up and repaired, the barn had been turned into a garage/stock and the stable was there Maria had her lab and workshop.
After a short walk she reaches a large building that looks like a stable. She tabs a code on a small device next to the door and it opens with a small swoosh.

Behind test tubes and other bottles, she finds a yellow female mobian with blond hair, wearing a white coat. She looks intensely at one of the tubes and adds a little drop of some kind of liquid and the content of the tube change. The yellow mobian sighs content as she looks up and spots Ember.

"“Hello honey, had a good day? How was Espio and Sibyl?"” She asks and stands up.

"“They were fine, they told me to say hi."” Ember says and takes a seat.

"“And the kids?”" Maria asks as she corrects her glasses.

“"The twins have almost recovered from the flu, Simon still coughs but Kokoro is fine. Your juice seemed to work."” The red hedgehog girl says simple.

"“Oh good. It's dreadful when small kids are sick."” The yellow mobian says as she sits down again.
"“When you were small, I was neither comfortable when you were ill.… I guess it is just a mother thing…”," She shrugs, then picks up a test tube and drinks the white liquid.

"“MOM!!!… That just look so wrong…."” Ember says disturbed as Maria drinks the content.

“"What? It is just milk,"…” Maria shrugs.

"“Mom…. It is a test-tube, not a glass."”

"“Oh that? The dishwashing machine has been acting up again, and I haven’'t had time to fix it…. I had hoped I could persuade your brother to handle that matter…. Where is he by the way?”" The yellow hedgehog asks as she mixes another drop in the other test tube.

"“I don’'t know…, but he said he would be home at supper…”."

"“MOMMY! I'm home!"” A voice sounds in the hallway.

"“I guess that answers the question…”," Ember says as her brother pops his head inside.

“"I will be in my room."” He says and leaves.

"“Oh… Ok, then I will start preparing supper."” Maria says as she shakes the tube and places it on a shelf.

"“That is strange, he usually sticks around at this time….”" Ember says puzzled.

"“He possibly have his reasons, he is after all teenager,"…” Maria says as she takes of her white coat and rubber gloves and washes her hands.
After that she heads back to the house, leaving Ember behind.

"“I better go see what he is up to”," Ember thinks to herself as she leaves the lab as well.

Inside the house, Gyro empties his bag on the floor in his bedroom and picks up the briefcase, he goes to a drawer with a lock which he opens, but before he puts the papers down there, he hesitates… He looks over his shoulder to ensure he is alone and opens it and starts reading.
As he studies the files he doesn'’t hear the door slowly and silently opening behind him and a shadow coming his way….

"“What ya doing bro?"” He hear a familier voice.

“"EMBER!! Damn it!” He says as he panicky hides the papers in the drawer.
"I could have had a heart-attack! May I remind that I am only ageless, not immortal!"” He shouts angrily at his uneffected sister, who just tilts her head and smirks at the frustrated boy.

"“I went to see grandpa, ok?"” He growls after a moment of silence.

"“Yeah I can see that."” She grins and points at the bag of candy on the floor while chewing on something that smells sweet.
"“What is it that you are hiding the drawer?"” She asks and looks curiously.

“"Some blueprints for a robot…."” Gyro sighs tired.

"“For the Robot War contest? Cool! Let me see!"” She says and In a quick maneuver, she has snatched the papers.
As she reads the files, her smile gradually fades and she gets a serious expression.
"“Metal Sonic?!!!"” She exclaims shocked.
"“Gyro! Do you have any ideas what that is! If mom finds out-!"…”

"“Relax, Ember! I don'’t plan on building an exact replica," The young ebony hedgehog says as he takes the papers out of her hands and puts them back in the drawer.

“"I… will built a replica…. Of Kinomi."…” He says ashamed, still having his hands in the drawer.

"“You are gonna what?!!!"” Ember asks the silent Gyro, who still has his back turned to her.

"“Gyro…, with all due respect…, I know you are suppose to be the smart one here, but have you lost it?! Building a robot version of Kinomi?! You haven'’t even given the real one a chance!”"

"“A chance for what...? To be asked out by the guy she used to change diapers on and singing lullabies to?!”" He says frustrated.

“"Gyro…, we were 4 years old when she started to come around…”!" Ember tries.

"“It doesn'’t matter, we have always been kids to her…! I don’'t have anything to offer her…, so I just do her a favor for not asking."”

“"Dinner is ready!"” Maria´s voice sounds from a speaker.

"“Ok... Fine you win… I am not gonna stop you... But I am in my right to laugh when this blows in your face... This is so wrong..."…” Ember says displeased as she stands up and cross her arms.

Few moments later, Gyro and Ember enters the kitchen, and helps their mother taking out the plates and cutlery to the dinner room.
As they sit down, their mother enters the room in company with Murphy the robot, who carries a large pot in his grabbling hook.

"“Thanks honey."” She says as the machine carefully puts it on the table. The machine gives a metallic purr and backs off.

"“It is just leftovers from yesterday, but I think we can manage."” She says as she pours the food on Ember´s plate.

"“How are you today, mom? Do you still have nauseas?"” Gyro asks worried as Maria takes his plate.

"“I am fine, honey. Thanks for asking.”" She says and pours food on his plate.

“"I still think you should see a real doctor, and not grandpa."” Ember says annoyed.

"“I'm fine Ember, there is nothing to be worried about.… I talked with Knuckles today, he had been in touch with Rouge last night, and he said that she and your dad would possibly be home before the next weekend for your birthday party."” She says calmly.

"“How are they?”" Ember asks.

"“After the circumstances, they are fine. The mission had however been more complicated then estimated. Rouge had been injured doing and confrontation, but it was luckily just a scratch. Omega on the other hand had lost an arm. They fortunately had one in spare."” The yellow mobian explains as she takes a bite of the food.

"“He he. Yeah, it would be a shame if old uncle Knuckles, again, would have to look after Rouge, when he also has the girls and the house to tend to.”" The red, blond haired hedgehog girl says while eating.

"“Yes, it would.… Keeping the world safe is not without risk…, unfortunately…. So Ember, how was training today?”" The mother hedgehog asks.

"“Great. It was good to see Suyin and Luna again, and today we had Espio´s mom, Karai, for a visit…. She's awesome! She knows how to use a pair of Tonfas. After a few lectures, we were told to pair-up and as usual, I ended up with Lilith as they believe we are the most equal…”." Ember explains and takes her glass in order to drink.

“"She still doesn'’t like you?…”" Maria asks concerned.

"“Indeed! But luckily she doesn'’t have anything on me,"…” The red girl says and empties her glass.

"“Hmm… maybe I should talk to Espio…."” The yellow hedgehog mumbles.

“"I'm afraid that won’t change anything, mom.… He knows of it already and has tried to talk to her. She is just a disturbed kid. Don'’t worry about it…. Besides, I get along very well with the others. The twins Kokoro and Simon have got this idea that I am their new playmate.… So that´s why I came home late."” Ember chuckles as she puts down her glass.

Her mother sighs and shakes her head a little with a smile.

"“What about you, Gerald? What have you been up to today?"” She asks the ebony and orange hedgehog boy.

"“Me…? Um…..., I saw grandpa today, he told me to say hi."” The boy says nervous.

“"Grandpa?"” Maria asks puzzled.

"“Yes, Gyro went to see him to gets some blueprints for a robot…”," Ember says.

"“A robot?"” The mother hedgehog asks uneasy.

"“Yeah, he and Hope is gonna participate in a contest called Robot Wars, and they needed some inspirations for their battle-bot."” The mobian girl explains.

“"Is it a NANNY 2000?”" Maria asks.

“"Nope."…” Ember says calm and their mother gives a small sigh of relief.

“…"Well, in that case…, if you need something, you just borrow it from my workshop.… Just promise me you don'’t follow these blueprints too close…, I think those who run the contest would appreciate they still have an arena after the show... and being alive.”" Maria says firmly, but smiles a little.

"“Don'’t worry! He won’t,… Right Gyro?”" Ember asks her muted sibling.

“"Huh?… Oh right…”..."

The following day.

In the middle of the afternoon, an orange and ebony black figure races through some trees till it reach a road which leads, to a large building.
The critter stops in front of it and looks at it for a while. He sighs and knocks the door. Few moments later, the door is opened by a middle-aged crimson fox lady with dark-blue eyes.

"“Gyro?”" She says surprised when she sees her visitor.

“"Hello Lisa, is Hope home?”"

"“She sure is! Come inside, she will be pleased to see you."” The lady fox smiles and shows him inside.

"“She is in her bedroom, I will take you there."” She explains and gives the young hedgehog sign to follow her.
Gyro had only been at Hope´s place one time before, and that were a few years ago when he still were little.
After a couple of minutes of walk, they stopped in front of a closed door.

"“Hope! There's someone here who wants to see you."” The mother fox says as she knocks the door.

“"Who?!”" A voice faintly sounds from the other side.

“"Gyro”." Lisa smiles.
The door opens right after the red fox sentence ends and in the door the yellow and red fox girl stood.

"“I will leave you kids be. If you need anything, you just call the servants."” The lady fox says and leaves.

"“Gyro! What a pleasant surprise!"” The fox girl says a little shy.
“"What brings you here?”" She says and blushes a little.

"“Well…. I need to borrow some of your metal cutting tools,"…” He says a little unsure and scratches himself behind the ear. Talking to girls wasn’'t his strong side.

"“Oh... um, sure…, Follow me. This way, they are in my dad´s workshop.” The girl says and leads him down stairs and outside to a hangar.

“"I presume it's the small portable ones you want, right?"”

"“Sure…”." Gyro says and blushes a little.

Inside the hangar, Hope goes to a big wall filled with tools and picks two scissor looking objects with a small machine attached.

"“The one for thin metal is my dad´s design, and the one for thick is my improved version.”" She says and hands them to Gyro, who with shaking hands receives them.

"“Is it for the Robot War contest?"” Hope asks excited all of sudden.

“"Um kind of…”..." He says insecure and looks the other way.

“"Cool! Can I see it? Maybe I can help!”" She says thrilled.

“"Well…, you see...… It's kind of a secret project,"…” He says and silences when he sees Hope gradually loosing her sparkling smile.

"“I will let you know when it is complete."” He says a little cheerful, hoping it would cheer her up.

"“Oh… um… Okay..…. But if you need anything, just let me know!”" She says trying to sound optimistic.

"I Will...Thank you..." He says with an akward smile and afterwards turns mute, not knowing what to say. After a moment, Gyro breaks the silence.
"I... I would like to stay and chat with you... but I have a tight schedule... I... I will see you at school, ok?" He says an blushes a little more.
Hope nods a little as Gyro gives her a smile before he disappears in a blur, heading home.

Hope looks after him till she can’t see him anymore. She knew deep down something weren’'t right, but she couldn'’t tell what...

Few days later…

Gyro sits on the floor in his bedroom with his laptop, and taps eagerly on the keyboard, the sound of tapping indicates he often miss the keys and have to delete.
He is obviously very tired and is pinch black under his eyes, he hadn'’t got much sleep. The floor around him is filled with blueprints, plans, old chips bags and soda cans.

He sighs as the computer ejects a CD, which he picks. He stands up and goes to his table where a head of metal is laying.
Outside, the sound of a door, slammed, can be heard through the old wood house, which afterward is followed by footsteps.
Panicked, the young hedgehog grabs the head and hides it under his duvet, afterward he tries to hide its heavy metal body in the wardrobe. As he struggles with it, he can hear the door to his bedroom is slowly opened. He shivers when he can see the light from the hallway and a shadow in the middle, if it was his mom or dad,… he was screwed!

"“You weren'’t at school today…”," He looks back and sighs by relief… it was Ember.

"“Ember…! Haven'’t I told you to knock?”" He says and tries to put the body back on the floor.

"“I had to cover for you again! When our folks find out, I'm in for a big time!"” She says and annoyed as she takes the robotic body from her brother and lays it down for him.

"“You have been so upset with that thing that you have forgotten what is the most important!” Ember says angry and places her hands on the hips.

"“And that is?"” Gyro yawns tired.

“"Hello!!! Have you forgotten it is the most important day of the year?!"” She says as she gives him a couple of small knocks on the head.

"“Auv! What?”" He says annoyed as he rubs himself a little on the head.

“"It is our day, Gerald Shade Robotnik! This is the day, we become 15! Doesn’'t that matter to ya?"” Ember says a little disappointed.

"“Is it Friday, already? Gosh,… I am sorry, Ember…. That must have slip out of my mind,"…” Gyro says and tries to apologies to his sister in red who is a bit upset.
"“…But don’t worry. I have got you a present"” He tries, but Ember just chuckles and shakes her head well knowing he was obviosly lying.

"You better have! My gift for you is pretty neat and expensive too" She says as she studies him with a smug that makes the dark hedgehog even more embarrassed.

"I spoke with Hike today, and he will be at the party Sunday... and so will your little friend Hope. They both told me to wish you happy birthday and a speedy recovery. I told them you were sick... or should I say injured." Ember says calmly.

"Injured?" Gyro asks a bit uneasy.

"I told them you had fallen on your tail and now was unable to sit on your ass." She says simple.

"Ember..." The young hedgehog says and takes himself to the head. He knew she was capable of doing something like that... But Ember serious expression turns into a big grin.

"Ha gotcha! Nah... I told them you had eaten something and had a bad stomach..." She explains as her brother gives a small relived sigh.
"So... How far have you come with this thing..." The red hedgehog girl sighs as Gyro picks up the head from his bed.

"Almost complete... When I have attached the head to the body and installed the OS, she ready for a beta..." He says as he struggles with the heavy head.

"Do you mind?" He asks and Ember takes the head and puts it on the table along with the body for him.
The young ebony black hedgehog picks up his toolbox and starts the operation that will attach the metal head to the robotic body.
Ember watches all silently as her brother eagerly screws and hammering on the robot.

"And now for the final touch..." He says and installs the CD to the robot, afterwards he plugs in a keyboard, mouse and a computer screen. He writes a few commands on a DOS-like screen and pushes the enter button and the CD starts to spin loudly.

"It is the CD-rom drive from the old computer in mother´s stock. That´s why it makes so much noise." The ebony and orange hedgehog explains as he and his sister takes a step away as the machine starts to spark and gets cramps.

"Gerald?" Ember asks insecure.

"Just a moment now..." Gyro says calm.

All of sudden it all stops and the machine lays all still on the table, Gyro walks closer to have a look. He touches it with his hand and the eyes starts to sparkle and a pair of pupils emerges.

"He... Hello... Can you hear me?" He asks insecure the robot.

The machine is still not responding.

"Do you know who you are? Do you know what you directive is?" Ember tries from the side line.

The eyes on the robot starts to glow brightly and it turns it sight to it's creator.

"My name is Metal Kinomi. My directive is to love and serve my creator Gerald Shade Robotnik, also known as Gyro." She says with a metallic and very monotone voice sounding more male then female.

"Wauw... What a girlfriend you got there, bro..." Ember says sarcastic and crosses her arms as the machine grabs him into a hug which more would seems like a metallic lock.

"Maybe she is a little too mechanical.." He says as he gasps for air.

"You dont say..." Ember sighs.

"She just needs some modifications... I will try turn on the emotion function... Ember a little help?..."

The red and blond hedgehog girl rolls with her eyes and turns of the machine with a switch behind it´s ear.
Gyro wrinkles himself free from the iron grip and starts tapping on the keyboard.

"Ok... right now her emotional level is on 0, now I will active the software and raise it to 5..." He says.

"5? What is the highest?" Ember ask as she picks up the bag of candy and continues to eat it.

"10."

"Then 5 wont do, I would say 10!" Ember says.
Gyro thinks for a moment and nods a little.

"All right then. We could consider this as a test, that way we can figure out what the other extreme is." He says and pushes enter.
Machine starts to cramp again and the pupils reemerges.

"Oh I love you!!!! Love love love love!!!" The machine exclaims when it sees Gyro and jumps him, grabs the speechless inventor into a big hug.

"Oh god..., what have it done..." Gyro gasps all red in the head as the machine picks him up from the ground.

"I will always be fateful to you, beyond any man or mobians imagination... I will do anything within my power to keep you happy and safe. I will obey any commands you give me, just to show you how much I looooove you." The machine says all emotional, this time with a regular female voice similar to Kinomi´s.

Ember couldn't help, but burst into laughter by this sight, her brother had truly screwed this one up for sure.

"Will you please put me down!?" Gyro says with a low voice all embarrassed as the metallic female snuggles him.

"Sure, my dear" She says and drops him with a loud bump on the floor.

"Perhaps, I should have told our classmates the story with a sore butt," Ember giggles to herself.

"Oh I'm so sorry! There let me help you, my little black and orange pumpkin!" she says worried and grabs his hand.

"I still haven't gotten use to this" She says apologizing as she yanks him up.

"Its... Ok... it's not your fault" Gyro says insecure all red in the face.

"Oh, you are so sweet!" She says.

"Um... perhaps we should get you some decent to wear... Ember? Do you have anything in spare?" Gyro says with a shaking voice.
The red, blond-haired hedgehog looks at him and the machine, and then nodes.

"I will see what I can do." She says simple and leaves, leaving Gyro alone with the amorous machine that stares at him with an intense loving glare.

As they both stood there, Gyro could feel how his heart was pounding in his small chest, not because the feelings where mutual, not at all...! But because he was nervous and same time a little scared of his own creation.
He wanted to adjust her emotion level as it was obviously way too high. But how was he going to that? There were clearly no constructive thinking left in the robot, if he asked her to be turned of how would she react? Would she submit or would she take it as a rejection like she wasn't good enough? He knew from own experience that some females could have an unpredictable nature... All this scenery reminded him of an awful soap-opera he once saw on TV...

"I am back!" Ember says and tosses some fabric in the machine´s way.

"I frankly never liked this dress so I wont miss it, try put it on Metal K." Ember says and crosses her arms.

"Oh, it's so delightful! I really like that pink bow! It makes it so cute and feminine!" The robot exclaims excited and holds the dress out so she can see it.

"Just take it, already..." Ember sighs.

"Sure, I will, sister Ember." The robot says and starts to take it on. In the distance the sound of a phone can be heard in the distance.

"It is possibly dad wishing us a happy birthday. I take the phone in the living room, so he doesn't hear her..." Ember says as she runs out of the door.

"So what do you wanna do?" the robot suddenly asks after Ember is gone.

"Do?.." Gyro asks surprise and takes a step away as the robot nears him.

"Something fun!" She says excited.
"We could go out and have a pizza or see a movie. You know things that couples do" She says all thrilled and makes a small jump of excitement.

"Ooh.... um...." He says insecure and corrects his glasses with a shaking hand, all sweating when she corners him.

"We.. We could see a movie..."He says, scared and then he raises his ears and smiles a little.
"Ya lets do that!" He says more confident and gives an awkward smile, He had an idea.

"What a brilliant idea!" The robot says happy.
"I love you, my little fuzzy ball." she says and takes his hand into hers.

Gyro takes the opotunity that is given and makes his move, he grabs the robot into a hug which she, right away, returns. She didn't knew that the ebony hedgehog slowly moved one of his hands up to her ear. As he was about to push the switch, he heard a small bump from the door.

"KINOMI?!!!!" He exclaims when he sees the albino hedgehog girl in the doorway. For a moment, she just stood there, frozen with her eyes wide open and a small tear was slowly emerging in the corner and her eyes... That expression just said everything... Gyro got cold-sweat and a lump in his throat.

"Gyro... how could you..." She whispers as a small tear runs down her cheek and lands on a box with a blue ribbon in her hands.
More tears emerges, Kinomi tosses the box on the floor and runs out.

"KINOMI!!!" Gyro shouts after her. The robot lets go of her creator and turns her arms into a cannon and a minigun.

"Is she bothering you, my love? Shall I get rid of her?" The machine says as she heads towards the door, but Gyro grabs her arm and stops her.
He then lets go of her and picks up the present, for a moment he just looks at it, and then notices a small note that is attached. On the outside, it didn't seem of much, it was just plain white... He then opens it and a soft little lullaby plays. Small hearts comes out of the left side of the card, and then Kinomi´s voice sounds.

"Happy 15th Birthday, Gyro. You have been an awesome friend for the last couple of years. I hope you enjoy your jet boots that I made for you, Love Kinomi."

With a shaking hands, he opens the box and finds a pair of Jet boots, Blue, white, and orange...
Gyro´s heart sank in his chest. "What have I done...." He whispered to himself as he holds the boots close to his chest.

"Gyro? what is wrong? who is she?" The robot asks uneasy with a slight sound of jealousy.

"I can't do this..." He mumbles to himself.

"I don't understand..." Metal Kinomi says worried and takes a step closer to Gyro.

"I have to deactivate you..." Gyro says and looks her into the eyes with a serious expression.

"Why?!" The robot asks offended.

"Metal Kin... The truth is that,... you are a copy of Kinomi..."

"Yes and?" She says a little frustrated.

"The reason for that... is I wish to be with Kinomi, but I didn't knew until today... At this very moment that she actually liked me... It was never my intention it was gonna end like this... I am sorry for the trouble I have caused you... Now, if you don't mind I will reprogram you so you can live your life as a happy robot..." Gyro tries but the machine moves away from him, rejecting. She stares cold at him for a moment and then sees a picture behind him, with Kinomi, Ember and himself taken few years earlier.

"Your right! It's not gonna end like that!!!" She says furiously and grabs Gyro´s wrist hard when he tries to reach her.
"One way or another I will obtain your affection!!! I am not gonna be outmatched by a mere meatball!" She shouts as she holds him close and then let go of him and blows a hole in the wall. In the dust and dirt from it, Metal Kinomi disappears.
